Larry Valenti Human Resources Professional Scholarship
As a member of Lake Norman HR (LKNHR), you belong to a community of HR professionals dedicated to advancing the field. In honor of our founding member, Larry Valenti, we are proud to offer the Larry Valenti Human Resources Professional Scholarship to support our members' career goals.
Scholarship Overview:
This scholarship provides $2,000 in financial support for educational opportunities such as degree programs, certification courses, or other HR-related training. The number of scholarships awarded each year depends on available funds. Recipients will also receive a paid one-year LKNHR membership.
Eligibility Criteria:
The application window is 10/1-12/31 - each year, the scholarship will be awarded in February. Late applications will not be accepted.
To apply for this scholarship, you must meet the following requirements:
- Education: Must hold or be pursuing a bachelor's degree in human resources or a related field.
- Professional Experience: At least two years of experience in an HR-related field (preference for current HR practitioners).
- Certification Applicants: If pursuing SHRM/HRCI certification, you must:
- Meet the eligibility requirements of the certifying body.
- Plan to test within 12 months of receiving the scholarship.
- Not receive financial support from your employer.
- Financial Need: Demonstrated need for financial assistance.
- Recommendation Letter: Include a letter of recommendation from a professional colleague.

Examples of Eligible Programs:
Here are some examples of continuing education and training programs that can be funded by this scholarship:
- SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP certification (SHRM)
- SHRM specialty credentials (e.g., HR Department of One, People Analytics, Talent Acquisition)
- aPHR, PHR, and SPHR certification (HRCI)
- Continuing education courses with an HR focus at a community college
