June is the start of an important month long celebration to honor and show support for our LGBTQ+ community. Lake Norman HR is proud stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community.
This month, we also celebrate Juneteenth - a federally recognized holiday, commemorating the freedom of Black people from slavery in 1865. Juneteenth is made up of the words ‘June’ and ‘nineteenth,’ the day that Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Texas 156 years ago to inform slaves that slavery had been abolished more than 2 years earlier on January 1, 1863. On this date, President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.
To celebrate Pride Month and Juneteenth, you could:
- Fly the pride and Juneteenth flags
- Attend a celebration in support of people in both communities
- Educate yourself by reading a book, listening to a podcast, or watching an LGBTQ movie or documentary, and watching a movie or documentary about slavery.
Juneteenth Festival of the Carolinas

LKNHR DE&I BOOK CLUB
The LKNHR DE&I Book Club will allow members to share information, personal stories, ideas, and discuss DEI topics in depth, especially as it relates to the workplace.
